Program Overview

The Sport Management degree program in Stonehill's Meehan School of Business affords students opportunities beyond professional franchises. In addition to alumni working for such organizations as the Kraft Group, the Boston Celtics and the New England Revolution, Stonehill prepares students for opportunities in related fields, such as media and public relations, esports/gaming and university athletics. Stonehill graduates have launched careers with such organizations as nearby NBCSports, FIFA, WNBA, DraftKings, Titleist-Footjoy and Reebok.

    Chad De Luca is an award-winning sports marketing veteran. He is the director of sponsorship sales for Twitch Properties at Amazon Advertising. He previously served as the head of gaming and esports at Publicis Media and also spent time with the New York Yankees, New Jersey Nets, Maine Red Claws and the NBA.

  • Khalil Griffith, director of basketball operations at Boston University

    Khalil Griffin enters his second season as the director of basketball operations and assistant coach at Boston University. He has conducted research on accessibility in youth sports programming, particularly in relation to socioeconomic status. 

Super Bowl LIX, Experiential Learning Opportunity

A select group of Stonehill College students will have an incredible opportunity during Super Bowl LIX. They will work alongside GMR Marketing to staff the NFL House, the premier invite-only club where elite guests conduct business and mingle with NFL legends, celebrities, and executives. Students will be on-site daily, overseeing corporate parties, managing venue access, facilitating celebrity appearances, and handling guest relations. This hands-on experience will provide invaluable insights into event management and networking within the sports industry, making it a unique opportunity for aspiring sports professionals.

Sport Marketing

MKT 348
Sport marketing is course that examines the marketing of sports products and the marketing through sports, or how companies use sports platforms to brand and market their products. Content specific to sports includes fan behavior, sponsorship, leveraging, licensing, and endorsements. Marketing strategies will incorporate traditional segmentation, targeting, positioning, and marketing mix components.

The Economics of Sports

The course analyzes the industry of sports, particularly professional and big-time college sports, using and developing tools of economic analysis, mainly microeconomics. Topics include the salary structure of professional team sports and the effects of free agency; the factors affecting sports attendance; the value of sports programming to broadcasters and the effect of television revenue; issues in college sports like conference realignment, television contracts, and eligibility rules; the economic effects of professional sports franchises and stadia; and factors affecting competitive balance.

Sport Management Internship

The internship program is designed to enhance knowledge of the environment and constraints of a sport-related setting. It is geared to give the student an opportunity to apply concepts and skills acquired in the classroom.

With its location near Boston—one of the country’s most successful sports cities— Stonehill provides its students with a vast array of internship opportunities in professional sports. 

 

Stonehill students can intern with sports athletic departments as well. Students also can intern at major corporations seeking to market through sports now that sports sponsorships are becoming increasingly prevalent. Media opportunities are also available.

Pair Your Degree With a Master's Degree in Business

The Skyhawk Accelerated Dual Degree allows Stonehill students to earn a bachelor's degree and master's degree in as little as four years. Eligible students receive early and expedited admission to their graduate program of interest and can begin working toward a master's degree in marketing or data analytics.
