Groundbreaking for the new library - Stonehill - May 16, 1997

Oh God, we gather in joy at this breaking of ground
that marks our moving forward in faithful adherence
to the ancient tradition of preserving the lore of a folk,
the transmitting of the sacred story of a religious people.

We give thanks for this extension
of our capacity for research.
We welcome this challenge
That technology serve our intellectual life.

We ask your blessing on our generous donors,
our creative architects and builders,
our library staff so responsive to our needs.

As administrators, faculty, staff
become sidewalk superintendents
may we also be urged to contribute
the fruits of our own learning.
Grant that this endeavor become a sign
our gathering of learners
is building a community of scholars.
