The “Sem” Library
Holy Cross Center
The library and chapel wing of Holy Cross Center were funded by a gift from Philip Hemingway. Construction started in 1961 and the wing was dedicated on May 12, 1962. In 1968 because of declining seminary enrollment a program was initiated where Stonehill Students and Seminarians lived in Holy Cross Center as part of a Christian Community which lasted for a few years. It’s been leased from the Congregation by the college as a dorm since the mid-seventies.
The following comes from the dedication: The library wing comprises a spacious library reading room, work room, stack room and the faculty lounge.
Today, current Stonehill residents living at Holy Cross Center can utilize this space as a general study area and collaborative space.
