Alumni Travel Program

The Alumni Travel program offers group travel opportunities with an educational component designed specifically for Stonehill alumni, their families and friends. The destinations selected capitalize on the specialty of a Stonehill faculty member which provides one-of-a kind travel and learning opportunities.

'Not Your Typical Ireland' with Prof. Richard Finnegan '64

October 3-12, 2014

Cost per person - $2334 - includes round trip flights between Boston and Ireland, accommodations at 4-Star hotels, entrance fees per itinerary, 3 dinners, breakfast every morning, private motor coach with driver, services of local guides per sightseeing itinerary and airport transfers.

 We have developed a special itinerary which highlights some typical and some very unique aspects of Ireland.  Professor Richard Finnegan has assisted us in creating this very unique travel experience and will accompany the group as faculty guide.  He is no stranger to Stonehill's Alumni Travel Program, having served as faculty guide on our very first trip.  Prof. Finnegan is a leading expert on Irish Politics and we will be adding some special visits to the itinerary as the dates draw near - capitalizing on Richard's contacts throughout the country.

Full itinerary details will be available shortly but a summary is below:

Day 1 - Depart Boston for Ireland

Day 2 - Arrive Shannon airport, visit the mesmerizing Cliffs of Moher, drive to Galway for a walking tour and Welcome Dinner

Day 3 - Visit the Aran Islands - via ferry visit Aran Mor, the largest of the three islands, return to Galway for free time

Day 4 - Tour Connemara, enjoy a catamaran cruise through Killary Harbour, visit Kylemore Abbey and then enjoy your final evening in Galway

Day 5 - Head north to Derry, stopping at Ballintubber Abbey and Drumcliffe Churchyard then enjoy a tour of Derry and free time

Day 6 - visit the Museum of Free Derry before heading out to explore Giant's Causeway (with a stop at Bushmills Distillery) before arriving in Belfast for a group dinner

Day 7 - explore Belfast with a local guide including a stop at the Titanic center before driving south to Dublin with a stop at Clonmacnoise

Day 8 - a local guide shows us the highlights of Dublin before we head out to visit Glasnevin Museum and Dublin Castle, then enjoy the afternoon and evening on your own to explore Dublin

Day 9 - tour the Gaelic Athletic Association Museum and then the Kilmainham Gaol in the morning the remainder of the day is yours to explore on your own or finish last minute shopping.  Tonight will be our Farewell Dinner at Dublin's oldest pub - Brazen Head Pub.

Day 10 - depart Dublin airport for return to Boston
