Teacher Licensure Programs

The Department of Education Studies offers programs in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education and Secondary Education which lead to initial teacher licensure from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Education Studies with a Concentration in Early Childhood Education

The Education Studies major with an Early Childhood Education concentration leads to initial licensure from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts: Early Childhood: Teacher of Students with and without Disabilities, PK-2.

Education Studies with a Concentration in Elementary Education

The Education Studies major with an Elementary Education concentration leads to initial licensure from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts: Elementary, 1-6.

Liberal Arts/Science major required

Education Studies majors desiring teacher licensure must also complete a major from the following list:

Chemistry Philosophy
Economics Political Science & International Relations
English Psychology
Environmental Studies & Sciences Religious Studies

Secondary Education Minor

Our Secondary Education minor - when paired with a major in Biology, Chemistry, English, French, History, Mathematics or Spanish - leads to initial licensure from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to teach in one of the following areas:

  • Biology (8-12)
  • Chemistry (8-12)
  • English (8-12)
  • Foreign Language: French (5-12)
  • Foreign Language: Spanish (5-12)
  • History (8-12)
  • Mathematics (8-12)
