This course will explore how social media works, why social media matters, and how to develop a successful social media strategy. The course will discuss how businesses can integrate social media strategy into their existing marketing infrastructure, customize and deliver social media strategies through channels relevant to the customers, and create social media campaigns across several key social platforms. It will also examine important ethical issues using social media.
BUS 206 and BUS 340, and Junior standing. Course may be applied to the
Entrepreneurship minor. Faculty will contact all students after the May 22 registration deadline with course instructions. Students should expect to dedicate approximately 17 hours of course related work per week.
Adjunct Professor of Marketing
Professor Courtney Spencer has taught at Stonehill since 2014. She began her career in marketing, working for many different industries and sized companies with a strong focus on social media strategy including AOL, Patch media, Black Duck Software and Liberty Mutual Insurance. Professor Spencer is an entrepreneur, writer and blogger, with a passion to teach and learn. As a digital marketing enthusiast and futurist, she has studied and have worked in many aspects of business marketing, emerging with a strong focus on the effects of technology, social media, culture and changing demographics on the industry. Recently, she has turned her everyday attention to her passion of teaching. Professor Spencer’s goal is to simplify and bring to life the subject area of social media marketing for her students, in addition to helping them successfully navigate this ever-changing business environment throughout all areas of their higher education careers and beyond.
Professor Spencer is originally from Easton, Massachusetts and currently resides in her hometown of Easton with her husband and two children. Professor Spencer also serves as the advisor of Social Media Scholars, Stonehill’s first social media focused club on campus. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, spending time with her family and outdoor activities and sports such as skiing, hiking and tennis.
