COVID-19 Recognition Wall

I want to acknowledge the amazing work of the Residence Life staff in facilitating a safe and streamlined move-in process, as well as the work they have done since then to engage our students in new and innovative ways and respond to their needs. With new protocols in place, they have worked tirelessly in collaboration with other departments to maximize safety in the halls and respond to a multitude of situations. Their commitment to our students and to the institution as a whole is evident, and I am so incredibly grateful for their continued efforts.

When we had to suddenly teach remotely last March, it was John who made it possible for me to maintain some level of effectiveness explaining economics to our students. Devon's strong leadership was exemplified during the pandemic. Her consistency, thoughtfulness, and communication provided comfort and consistency amidst chaos. Additionally, her priority was always to make sure the tutors and students remained connected to the CWAA, and she worked long hours and dedicated time without a second thought to ensuring everything was running smoothly. She heard every idea and embraced each one as a possibility and, as her colleague, her strength and consistency resonated in our community. Our tutors were informed, understanding, and compassionate, and it was Devon's leadership that emphasized transparent communication. She is simply awesome, and I am honored to write this recognition for her hard work! Thank you!

Craig, I believe, went above and beyond during this pandemic. I was on campus a few times a week and he was there everyday. It was a challenge to get paperwork to different parts of campus. I emailed him, he went to my office to pick up the paperwork and deliver it to where it belonged. He opened offices to let people in to reboot computers or leave info. I'm sure he did a lot more than that for others, but anytime I asked him for something he did what he could to get it done. Thank you, Craig!

Brittany has gone above and beyond in her work as campus minister in many extraordinary ways. She brings a light and joy with her to every situation. Beyond her work in Campus Ministry, Brittany opted to live on campus with her spouse and be a pastoral presence in the halls. With this, she is pastorally supporting the Residence Life staff and desiring to walk with people in all sorts of situations. Brittany has led by example of loving service this year in particular by also always having a high standard of care for students and the community partners with whom she works. I would like to thank Brittany publicly as she is a testament to living the mission of Stonehill in profound ways.

Maria went above and beyond in support when I was diagnosed with COVID-19 back in the spring. She was super helpful in walking me through the process and just being a helpful ear as I went from possible contact, to direct contact to being tested positive over a few days. She was super helpful and ahead of the game with going through my contact tracing and even allowed me to direct my public health nurse to her to go through all of these for me, so I wouldn't have to do so again. I honestly think I would have gone crazy without her assistance through it all while self-isolated. Thank you, Maria!

Jennifer, Allison and Jen worked tirelessly this summer to ensure that the library would be ready and able to welcome students in the fall. They put in place new protocols for safety, moved furniture to ensure physical distance, and helped faculty get their reserve materials online. We would not be able to serve our students without the tremendous amount of work they put in. Thank you, ladies!

Carolyn is the face of the Meehan School of Business and welcomes faculty, students, staff and visitors with a smile and helping hand. She worked all summer to help insure a smooth transition to the fall semester and I am grateful to her and for all of her hard work.

These individuals were the backbone for the Scholar Strike for Racial Justice. They found out about the Scholar Strike on August 28th and managed to pull together a program for the entire campus community to engage and learn more about allyship, racial injustices, and systematic racism. I am truly grateful to work alongside these individuals.

Kelly worked tirelessly to support our graduate intern training program with adapting the training to either virtual or physically distanced platform. She has been creative and thoughtful in supporting the interns in telehealth training.
She is directly supervising two interns amidst a staffing change and should be commended for her dedication in fostering the development of new clinicians.

By volunteering to staff the check in table located in the Duffy parking lot during the unprecedented 20 day move in period in August, these individuals provided some much needed relief to the Residence Life staff from the number of hours required to execute this process.

While the pivot to virtual programming has been as difficult as it has been uncomfortable for those who don't feel they are tech savvy, Geoff has been a beacon of lux et spes for our office and partners across campus. Geoff has been working tirelessly since before we went remote to make this transition as easy and painless for us as possible, even when it hasn't been that way for himself. He has created step by step instructions for us to learn the inner workings of our CRM; he has hosted trainings for our office and for campus partners to get us up to speed on Zoom; he has made himself available at all hours, on all days, to answer our questions, no matter how complicated. I could go on for paragraphs about how grateful I am for Geoff and his gentle explanations to even the most simple of queries, but I'll end with this: Geoff, we would not have had as much success transitioning to a virtual environment without you. I hope you know how truly grateful we are for your time, energy, enthusiasm, and hard work. You deserve a (very, very long) vacation.

Kim is always amazing. But in particular this semester, Kim was able to coordinate the Organic Chemistry II labs in a socially distanced fashion for more sections than usual. This required extra work because in usual semesters students could share chemicals and work more closely. Kim also coordinates the other lab prep staff including students and somehow is has pulled it all off seamlessly. She deserves this recognition!!

Kim is the lab manager who organizes the general chemistry and organic labs. This has been an enormous job this semester because the physical distancing requirements have made the lab logistics extra complicated. But Kim has been heroic in her efforts, putting in extra time and energy to make sure that the labs still run smoothly. Kim also works with the students performing the labs and she mentors the work-study lab assistants. She has been kind, supportive, and patient with the students amid the extra stress that has come down on everyone this year!

From day one of the pandemic, Maria Sullivan has done a dizzying amount of constant work. From planning for Stonehill's reopening to her direct work with students who need to enter isolation and quarantine, she has been at the front line every step of the way. The hours she is putting in are jaw-dropping, and it's not uncommon to see her literally running across campus. MOST remarkably, throughout all of this she has maintained a compassionate, student-centered approach that prioritizes not just the physical wellbeing of impacted students but their emotional wellbeing as well. Her expertise, compassion, and work ethic are stunning, and Stonehill would not be making our way through this pandemic without her.

Paul works in I.T. he has help me and my department with various computer issues. No matter what the issue or time of day he is always willing to resolve the issue. Paul always answers his e-mails quickly. During the hectic registration week, I brought, on behalf of a student, yet another out-of-the-norm issue to Assistant Registrar Lisa Tressel. Lisa quickly addressed and secured the issue’s resolution. This is not the first instance in which my students and I have benefited from her assistance. She always works diligently to attain the best outcome for the students and faculty. Stonehill is fortunate to have such a dedicated professional!

Fr. Bryan has gone above and beyond throughout this Covid time. I have witnessed his varied strengths expand and develop in ways that bless so many of us. Most specifically, Fr. Bryan brings a joy-filled presence with students. He has figured out different options for students both in person and remote to engage in meaningful spiritual development through faith sharing, retreats and Christian worship with our SPARK! Program. Fr. Bryan does everything with a humble spirit, serving others out of love with grace. I want to publicly thank him for the gift of his presence as it has transformed so many of us and has given students a space for companionship and belonging.

Ever since March, I have been consistently impressed with the flexibility and enthusiasm my team has approached student access. We constantly review our access points for students, ensuring all students would have means to work with our team, and we get creative whenever obstacles arise. Strategic conversations and an "all hands on deck" attitude are not surprising, but so very appreciated. I feel lucky to work with this team, and I thank them for their constant question of "how can we make this accessible?" when discussing any program or initiative. I also appreciate our definition of access consistently pertains to remote students, students on campus, BIPOC students, first generation students, and others consistently. Thanks for bringing the energy, and let's keep up the great work!
