As you prepare to begin your academic journey at Stonehill College, it’s important that you enroll in courses that match your current knowledge and skills. We ask all incoming students to complete a series of readiness assessments to support their success transitioning to college expectations. These assessments are not graded; they are designed to help us understand where you’re starting from and recommend the courses that best support your academic growth.

Details regarding course registration will be sent to your Stonehill email address in early July.

Business Mathematics Readiness Assessment (Due Monday, June 1, 2026)

You are required to take the Business Mathematics Readiness Assessment if you are intending to major in accounting, business analytics, finance, international business, management, management information systems, marketing, sport management, or talent and human resources management. Additionally, if you are entering as “undeclared business,” you must take the Business Mathematics Readiness Assessment. Your assessment score will help us determine your readiness and recommend the appropriate mathematics course as you register for fall classes.

Students planning to major in economics or healthcare management are exempt from the Business Mathematics Readiness Assessment but are encouraged to consider taking it if they are exploring or undecided about their specific area of business focus.

Calculus Readiness Assessment (Due Monday, June 1, 2026)

You are required to take the Calculus Readiness Assessment if you are intending to major in actuarial mathematics, astronomy, computer science, data science, earth and planetary sciences, economics, engineering, mathematics, photonics or physics. Students in other science disciplines should take this assessment as well if they want to be considered for calculus in their first semester. Your assessment score will help us determine your readiness and recommend the appropriate mathematics course as you register for fall classes.

If you are majoring in one of the other sciences, you are NOT required to take the Calculus Readiness Assessment because our recommendation is for you to take Precalculus prior to taking Calculus. However, you may take the Calculus Readiness Assessment if you have a strong background in mathematics and would like to be able to bypass Precalculus and go directly into Calculus.

Take the assessment without referring to any books or notes. You are not allowed to use any type of calculator. If you do not know the answer to a question, you should not guess. The only purpose of this assessment is to determine which math course will be the best option for you. Please answer questions to the best of your ability. Otherwise, the recommendation may not be suitable to your level of knowledge.

Spanish Language Placement Exam (Due Monday, June 2, 2025)

You are required to take the language placement exam if you are intending to take any Spanish-language classes. Please select the appropriate exam based on the number of years of Spanish you’ve studied in high school. You are not required to take the Spanish language assessment if you are planning on taking one of the courses taught in English that the Department of Languages, Literature & Cultures offers. If you have never studied Spanish before, you are not required to take an assessment and may enroll in SPA 131.

Your assessment score will help us determine your readiness and recommend the appropriate Spanish course as you register for classes. Please complete it carefully and independently, without using AI tools that might misrepresent your skills and attributes.
