Vacation & Leave
Vacation:
All full and part-time employees are eligible for vacation leave benefits. Part-time employees working 20 to 29 hours per week will earn prorated vacation leave. Full-time employees are those working 30-plus hours per week.
On July 1 (each fiscal year) the College pre-loads eligible vacation weeks and an employee is eligible to use their vacation bank for the entire year. The College's online system tracks and reflects the hours used. On June 30, any hours remaining will be deleted and the system will be reestablished on July 1 of the next fiscal year.
Vacation time may be taken after the successful completion of the provisional period.
Sick Leave:
Sick time accrues each pay period. The maximum accrual is 127 days. Sick time is pro-rated for part-time employees and is applied in accordance with Massachusetts Sick time law. Sick time may be used for personal illness, the illness of a spouse, parent, child, sibling, spouse-in-law, or any individual to whom the employee serves as a legal guardian or primary caregiver, or for any reason allowable under law or to care for an ill parent, spouse, or dependent.
Bereavement Leave:
Employees receive five (5) days for an immediate family member and one (1) day for an extended family member.
Immediate Family Member - an employee's spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, mother or father-in-law, brother or sister-in-law, son or daughter-in-law, grandchild, step-parent or step-child or any other individual to whom the employee serves as a legal guardian or primary caregiver. An immediate family member may include other individuals with intimate, family-like relationships with the employee.
Extended Family - an employee's aunt, uncle, cousin, niece or nephew, or grandparents-in-law.
Employees may request additional time beyond that granted if approved by their supervisor. The employee may elect to use any accrued vacation, bonus, or personal time. If no time is available, the additional days will be unpaid.
Parental Leave:
Upon the birth, adoption, or placement of a child, an eligible employee is entitled to up to 8 weeks of leave. The 8 weeks will be considered paid parental leave and the employee will receive regular pay. Employees may request to take an additional leave beyond 8 weeks as an entitlement under the Family and Medical Leave Act or as granted by Stonehill.
Jury Duty:
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA):
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993 provides up to 20 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave to eligible employees for certain family and medical reasons. Please see the policy for more details.
