Requirements to Apply

Female student with a 3.3 cumulative GPA, U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency and plans to pursue an advanced degree or immediate career in their field after graduation.

Applications will be considered from female students entering their junior years with declared majors in computer science, mathematics, chemistry, physics, or Stonehill's four-year engineering degree program. For engineering scholars enrolled in the College’s 3+2 dual degree engineering program, consideration will be given to female applicants entering their sophomore year with the ability to renew in their junior/final year at Stonehill. Two scholars will be selected for the 2022-2023 Academic Year and their awards will be renewed in the 2023-2024 Academic Year. Clare Boothe Luce Scholars receive a full tuition, fees, room and board scholarship for the fall and spring semesters.

Applicants must have an overall 3.3 cumulative GPA, U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency and plans to pursue either an advanced degree or an immediate career in their field upon graduation. If selected, recipients will be required to maintain a 3.3 GPA in order to renew their scholarship for a second year. Preference will be given to scholars enrolled in the academic fields with the smallest proportion of women (e.g., physics, computer science, engineering).

Application must include:

  • A Personal statement with focus on career intent (500 words or less). What are your professional aspirations? Indicate the area of expertise you plan to pursue and specify how your current academic program and your overall educational plans will assist you in achieving this goal. If you are planning to complete any undergraduate research, such as a Stonehill Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) project, please include a brief description.
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty within your major department, which should be sent directly from the faculty member to Professor Ralph Bravaco, College Center 226C, rbravaco@stonehill.edu

Applications are due by 4 PM on April 15, 2022. Applications will be reviewed by a committee of STEM faculty with input from a representative in Student Financial Assistance. Names of recommended recipients will be shared with the Henry Luce Foundation for final review and approval.

Responsibilities of the Clare Boothe Luce Scholars

Students who accept the award will hold the designation of Clare Boothe Luce Scholar for the duration of their scholarship and will be active leaders both on campus, in the classroom, and in the research community.

  1. connecting with other STEM students, particularly women, via mentoring and/or tutoring roles;
  2. participating in recruitment events, such as admission open houses; and
  3. pursue internal and external undergraduate, high-impact learning opportunities such as research and internships.
