Advising Tools and Resources

Advisors play a fundamental role in helping students shape their educational goals. At its core, academic advising is a learning experience for both students and advisors. Faculty advisors are encouraged to adopt the pedagogy that they feel best supports their relationship with each student. Below is an outline of the general learning outcomes associated with an advising session.

  1. Understanding of the Cornerstone, General Education, and Major requirements
  2. Appreciation of how to make appointments with their advisors, access their pins, and engage in a planning conversation
  3. Awareness of the resources on campus to assist them in self discovery, exploration, and support

Logistical

  1. How to access myHill and view courses for Registration
  2. How to construct a schedule that meets their curricular needs
  3. How to access myAudit and follow their degree plan

Developmental

  1. How to explore major options and choose a major that is aligned with their skills, ability, and interest
  2. How to construct and adapt/adjust a four-year academic plan
  3. How to create and define goals for college. Demonstrate intentional decision making, reflection, goal setting, flexibility and exploration
