Stonehill College Honored by Cathedral High School
The institution was recently recognized as one of Cathedral’s 100 Centennial Heroes.
Stonehill College was honored during Cathedral High School’s 24th Adopt-A-Student Foundation (AASF) Gala, held on Thursday, October 30, at the Seaport Hotel in Boston. The annual event celebrates Cathedral’s mission and raises funds to provide scholarship support for students and their families.
This year’s gala coincided with Cathedral’s 100th anniversary. In celebration of a century of impact, the high school recognized 100 Centennial Heroes, an inspiring collection of individuals, groups, corporations and foundations who have contributed to Cathedral scholars’ success over the years.
Stonehill was included on this roster for its commitment to ensuring that finances are not a barrier for Cathedral students pursuing an undergraduate degree. As part of the John E. Drew Stonehill College Commitment, all Cathedral graduates who are admitted to Stonehill automatically receive at least $25,000 in merit aid as part of their financial package. This award, which can total up to $40,000, is renewable for students’ sophomore, junior and senior years at Stonehill. Additionally, the College aims to meet the full demonstrated financial need of each Cathedral graduate who attends Stonehill through additional scholarships, grants and part-time employment opportunities.
The Commitment is named after John E. Drew ’65, who was also honored as a Centennial Hero at the AASF Gala alongside his wife, Kathy. The Stonehill alumnus and AASF Trustee is the founder and president of The Drew Company, a real estate management and development organization based in Boston. Throughout his career, Drew has also offered his expertise as an adviser to organizations both domestic and international, including the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Consulate of Monaco. For many years, he has served as a Trustee at both Stonehill and Cathedral.
Another Stonehill and Cathedral board member, J. Keith Motley, Ph.D, was also honored as a Centennial Hero. With over 30 years of experience in higher education administration, Motley is currently a faculty member at the University of Massachusetts Boston’s College of Management. Previously, he served as chancellor of UMass Boston from 2007 to 2017.
