Looking for a good location where Irish athletes could practice before the 2017 Hurling Classic at Fenway Park, alumna Kathleen Harrington ’08, assistant director of special events with Fenway Sports Management, contacted Athletic Director Dean O’Keefe ’94. With one call Harrington had secured an invitation for the Tipperary hurling team to train at W. B. Mason field. As a result, some of Ireland top athletes practiced on campus Saturday before the Hurling Classic at Fenway Park on Sunday, November 19. Sponsored by the Gaelic Athletic Association, hurling is the fastest field sport in the world and one of the most popular sports in Ireland today. Hurling sticks are made with top quality ash wood.
