Stonehill’s Sacred Places

September 26, 2013

Students in one of Professor Mary Joan Leith’s religious studies classes are studying sacred spaces from Mt. Sinai in Egypt to Ground Zero in New York. As part of the class, with Professor Leith leading, they are also exploring Stonehill’s sacred places, such as the Chapel of Mary, the Grotto, the Holy Cross Fathers Cemetery, the old Daily homestead deep in our woods, and the Caves on Stonehouse Hill. On Monday, they were assisted by retired Stonehill academic advisor Richard Grant who is an authority on nature and local history. The handsome black lab escorting the group is Barney. In November, the class will travel to New York to visit the 9/11 memorial.
