Colllege Mourns Loss of Daniel "Bud" Roche

September 5, 2013

The College mourns the loss of Daniel “Bud” Roche, who passed away on Wednesday. Roche was one of Stonehill's most generous benefactors. A meat-cutter whose entrepreneurial skills paved the way for the success of Roche Brothers Supermarkets, he was legendary in his commitment to worthy causes. Bud and his wife Eileen started the Patty Roche Memorial Scholarship in tribute to their daughter who died soon after graduating from Stonehill in 1984. More than 50 Stonehill students have benefited from that scholarship and Bud loved meeting the recipients at the annual Roche Scholars Dinner, as seen in this photo from the 2009 dinner. The Roche Dining Commons is named after Patty Roche. The roof top garden in the Science Center also bears the Roche name. Proud Stonehill parents not just of Patty but also of their son Daniel ’81, Bud and Eileen received honorary degrees from the College in 1996.
