With the lights off, the north section of parking lot 17 was in darkness on Wednesday night, which allowed 150 students and faculty -- many with their children -- to gaze clearly at the stars. Organized by the Everglades Learning Community, the event offered multiple telescopes, astronomers and guided meditation.

Preceded by a Night Walk through campus trails, the event highlighted the joy of appreciating nature with others, awareness about the environment, especially ambient light pollution, and mindfulness. Having spent nine days in January in Florida studying the ecology of the Everglades and its restoration, the students in the LC wanted to share what they learned with the wider campus community.
