Global Investment Opportunities: Students Get First-Hand Advice On Establishing Financial Careers From Alumni

October 17, 2014

Students interested in careers in global finance got first-hand advice from two alumni who have established successful careers at Goldman Sachs, Managing Director and the company’s Global Lead for Talent Acquisition Michael Desmarais ’88 and Jon Hughes ’07, a Vice President in the Securities Division. Also taking part in the recent session was SGA Executive Director Dan Doherty ’15, who interned at Goldman Sachs this past summer and has already secured a job at the company as well as Daniel Mullen ’14, who has been recruited as an analyst at Goldman Sachs.

In addition to their talk with students, Desmarais and Hughes held an open lunch with faculty to discuss the skills Goldman Sachs, a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm, looks for in new hires.

"One of the advantages of the Stonehill business program is that we have many alumni who stay connected to the College long after graduation and give back in the form of internships, employment opportunities, mentoring students, serving as guest speakers/lecturers in the classroom, and in addition to financial assistance for our programming," says Business Administration Department Chair Debra Salvucci

"Employment skills are incorporated throughout our curriculum but we regularly reach out to our alumni, employers, and advisory board members for feedback on what we may need to add to our courses to insure that our students have the most up to date knowledge and skills," she adds.
