Stonehill Alum Micah Christian '06 Inches Closer to Dream

August 28, 2014

Micah Christian '06 (far right) has captivated America with his voice on "America's Got Talent."

Sons of Serendip, the group that has captured the country's attention on NBC's "America's Got Talent," advanced to the show's Top 6 on Wednesday night. Its lead singer, Micah Christian, is a 2006 graduate of Stonehill.

The self-described gospel/classical/neo-soul/R&B fusion quartet formed six months ago after meeting at Boston University where Christian was studying for a master of divinity degree.

Their soulful renditions of popular songs like "Don't You Worry Child" and "Wicked Game" have captivated the hearts of the show's judges and America, which holds the group's fate moving forward.

"Thank you America for voting us through. When we first got together we never imagined this would be happening to us so we are so grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you," said Christian after host Nick Cannon announced the results on Wednesday's live show.

Also active in the College's Office of Campus Ministry, he took part in H.O.P.E., Stonehill's Alternative Spring Break Program. Last year, Christian and his wife, Stonehill alumna Jocelyn (Vierra) Christian '08, spent the year in Peru working with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The two taught English to high school students there.

Sons of Serendip will perform live at Radio City Music Hall in the coming weeks, hoping to inch closer to their dream of winning the show's $1 million prize through America's vote.
