Alumni Executives Return to Discuss Financial Service Career Options with Students

Stonehill alums Michael Scannell ’87, a senior vice president at State Street, and Daniel Farley ’92, the executive vice president of State Street Global Advisors, will return to Stonehill to speak with students as part of the Business Administration Department’s C-Suite Speaker Series on Wednesday, April 27th at 7 p.m. in Alumni Hall. All are welcome to attend.

Their talk will cover a range of topics including important issues facing financial firms today and what it takes to have a successful career in financial services. The two will also discuss how students can use Stonehill alumni connections to improve their career prospects as well as review employment opportunities at State Street. 

Scannell is the senior vice present and global head of Talent Acquisition and head of State Street’s Global Inclusion initiative. His Talent Acquisition focus is on identifying, attracting and hiring highly talented and diverse individuals. As the head of State Street’s Global Inclusion initiative, Scannell is responsible for the company’s diversity and employee engagement efforts as well as the flexible work program.

Throughout his 18 years in Global Human Resources, he has held several HR management positions. Prior duties included chief human resources business partner for State Street’s largest business areas: Investor Services North America and North America Sales. He has also been responsible for the management of several major business acquisitions and divestitures – including human resources integration manager for the acquisition of Investors Financial Corporation and responsibility for all HR aspects for both the US integration of the Deutsche Bank Global Securities Services acquisition and the sale of State Street’s Corporate Trust business.

Scannell joined State Street shortly after graduating from Stonehill in 1987 and held several positions in the US Mutual Fund Operations area, servicing large client relationships prior to transitioning to Global Human Resources.

He serves on the Board of Directors of Ellis Memorial House and is also a member of ALPFA Boston’s Corporate Advisory Board. Additionally, he is a mentor with the Year Up organization and participates in Boston Partners in Education’s Big Cheese Reads program. He also serves on The Partnership’s Executive Council, Boston Business Journal Leaders in Diversity Steering Committee and the Rosoff Award Committee.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stonehill and certification from Northeastern University in human resources management.

Farley, in addition to his role as an Executive Vice President of State Street Global Advisors, is also the Chief Investment Officer of SSGA’s Investment Solutions Group. In this role, he oversees a team of over 75 investment professionals managing over $180 billion in multi asset class portfolios, including tactical asset allocation, liability driven investments and working with clients in developing customized investment portfolios to meet their specific objectives. He is also a member of the firm's Executive Management Group. Prior to this role he was responsible for the US multi-asset class solutions team.

Farley holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Stonehill and a Master of Business Administration degree from Bentley University. He has earned the Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Boston Securities Analyst Society. He is on the State Street Foundation's Corporate Allocations Committee and is the executive sponsor of the firm's Latin American Professionals Group. Farley frequent speaks with the media and at conferences on a variety of investment topics. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Board at the Crispus Attucks Children's Center.
