Dear Gene and Mary,

It was so wonderful to see you and connect this summer at the Stonehill Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) symposium. I hope that the opportunity to see the students present in person gave you a sense of the enormous impact of your generosity on the work they’ve been doing.

We are happy to share more details about how we’ve been using the instrumentation you’ve so generously provided to our department, and to describe how it continues to enhance student learning and research. Please enjoy the following personalized interviews with students and faculty about their current projects.

Hands-on experience sets Stonehill apart from other institutions

Students participating in SURE this summer shared their experiences and the impact of the NMR instrument on their SURE projects and independent research throughout the academic year. Two groups, studying with faculty members Professor Leon J. Tilley and Associate Professor Jennifer A. Dabrowski, highlighted their gratitude for access to such advanced technology right at Stonehill – a feature that sets us apart from peer undergraduate programs.

Access to cutting edge technology impacts how students envision their future opportunities

The students also shared what they’ve learned so far during their time at Stonehill and some of their plans for after graduation, ranging from going directly into industry to pursuing graduate degrees in a variety of fields.

New instruments are essential to the progress of faculty and student research

Faculty, including Chemistry Department Chair Dan Rogers, Jen, Leon, and myself, and students look forward to using the new LC-MS instrument starting in academic year 2025-2026.

We wholeheartedly appreciate your support of crucial instrumentation for our department. We believe our Chemistry and Biochemistry programs have outstanding outcomes for our students for many reasons – not the least of which is the incredible instrumentation we are so fortunate to possess!

Thank you!
