About the Program

How does an award-winning reporter who has helped solve true crimes through her investigations become a USA Today best-selling author of fast-paced murder mysteries? And how does a just-the-facts journalist add mystery fiction to her resume? Hank Phillippi Ryan has managed to mix the worlds of fact and fiction – in an amazing career from radio reporter to Rolling Stone Magazine to undercover investigations at Boston's WHDH-TV.

Hank is now the author of 17 novels, including All This Could Be Yours, One Wrong Word, and The House Guest, which have won every major mystery award in the industry and have been translated into multiple languages throughout the world. Her fiction is inspired by a lifetime of groundbreaking true-crime stories from a storied career as an on-air investigative journalist for Boston’s WHDH-TV for which she was awarded multiple journalism honors, including 37 Emmy Awards. Hank began her TV career in 1975, and she's battled her way through hurricanes, floods and blizzards, wired herself with hidden cameras, chased criminals and confronted corrupt politicians. With ground-breaking reports including revealing mistakes in the 911 system that sent emergency responders to the wrong addresses, a failing jury selection system, firefighters given outmoded and failing equipment, corruption in the mortgage industry and unfair practices by powerful contractors, her hard-hitting journalism has changed laws and changed lives.

A TedX speaker and in-demand literary moderator, she has been hailed as “a superb and gifted storyteller.”  A native of Chicago with roots in Indianapolis, Ryan lives in Boston.
