Typewriter Throwback: Students in Professor Maureen Boyle’s “Development of American News Media” class experienced their own Throwback earlier this week when they were introduced to using manual typewriters. “They had fun using the typewriters but they’re not ready to give up word processing, especially when they realized if you make a mistake typing, you have to either redo the whole thing or find a way to erase the error,” said Boyle.

On Saturday the basketball court in Merkert Gymnasium will be officially dedicated as the Paula Sullivan Court during a ceremony prior to the women’s basketball game. With over four decades of outstanding service to Stonehill, Paula brought excellence to everything she handled. She turned a fledgling program into a national powerhouse and retired as one of the winningest basketball coaches of all-time. During the 1993-94 season, she led her team to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the first time in school history.

Throwback Thursday

This week we lost a Stonehill legend with the passing of Tom MacDonald ’53. Universally known as “Coach Mac,” he was the driving force behind the revival of football at the College. In 2012, a special roast was held at the College in his honor and at the event, Head Football Coach Rob Talley said, “If it wasn’t for men like Tom MacDonald, there would be no football program here at Stonehill.” This past Saturday before MacDonald’s passing on Monday, the Skyhawk’s defeated rival Bentley 24-17, its first road victory there since 1995.
