Monday Morning Update

Last year proved to be an exciting, successful one for the College. Below are some highlights.

January: With the launch of Handshake, students have a new, easy-to-use online career platform offering opportunities for all majors...Hundreds of alumni & family brave snowy weather to attend Alumni Day, which included a winter carnival...To mark MLK Day, community members pledge to make the College more equitable and inclusive.

February: Stonehill is a one of the best colleges for students seeking a high-quality education, great career preparation and an affordable price, according to the Princeton Review...Also the Peace Corps names the College to its 2016 list of top volunteer-producing schools.

March: Alumna Catherine (Childs) Capolupo ’94 returns as the Vice President for Enrollment Management...A new partnership with Catholic University gives Stonehill students seeking careers on Capitol Hill practical experience...Primarily but not exclusively over spring break, 163 students participate in 17 service projects at home and abroad as part of H.O.P.E. program... Men's Ice Hockey wins its second-ever NE-10 championship, their first since 2007. 

April: Protesting sexual assault, community members gather on the Quad to Take Back the Night...Bloomberg Businessweek hails the College as a top business school...DiverCity festival celebrates world cultures...Stonehill mourns the passing its eighth and longest-serving president, Rev. Bartley MacPhaidin, C.S.C. ’59.

May: Our largest ever Commencement takes places on a packed Quad as 678 seniors receive their degrees...For their gift, the Class of 2016 create a Perseverance Scholarship in tribute to classmate Matt Brown...Trustees approve the College’s academic restructuring into a School of Business and a School of Arts & Sciences.

June: Alumni from 14 classes return for Reunion...At the President’s Dinner, Nicole Bollerman ’10 receives the President’s Award for Excellence...700+ members of the Class of 2020 attend Orientation sessions on campus...Eli Garner succeeds Rob Talley as head football coach.

July: As part of the Stonehill Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE), 50 students collaborate with 25 faculty members on research projects...Camp Shriver, an inclusive summer camp for local children with and without disabilities, starts its fourth year...Career Development launches Suit-A-Skyhawk, which helps students with professional attire as they network and interview.

August: The College community rallies in support of Sociology Professor Chris Wetzel after he sustains a hiking injury...Stonehill’s Conference & Events hosts more than 30 groups and 15,000 guests on campus over the summer...The Globe profiles Mobile Market...Ten new full-time professors join the faculty.

September: At Convocation, English Professor Helga Duncan receives the Hegarty Award for Excellence in Teaching...Stonehill jumps eight places to 108 on U.S. News & World Report’s list of top national liberal arts schools...Trustees approve revisions to the College’s master plan to include construction of a School of Business and a Welcome Center on the main Quad.

October: The Princeton Review includes Stonehill in its Guide to 361 Green Colleges... Installation of solar canopies in the student-visitor parking lot begins...Women's Cross Country wins their eighth straight NE-10 championship...The first-to-second year retention rate for the Class of 2019 stands at a record 92.4 percent.

November: Women’s Soccer wins the NE-10 conference championship...women’s golf becomes our 21st varsity athletic program...Giving Tuesday breaks records with 1,261 gifts and $292,682 raised...The Alumni Auction’s fundraising for student scholarships hits the $1+ million mark.

December: For both students and faculty, attention turns to final papers and exams...On campus, Christmas is celebrated with many acts of kindness and giving, as well as special events, including the Sons of Serendip concert featuring Micah Christian ’06...With the break, the College enters its most tranquil period of the year.
