By the Numbers: Christmas at Stonehill

1 Christmas Eve Mass in the Chapel of Mary, which was celebrated at 5:00 p.m on Friday, December 24.

60 local families assisted by gifts made through Campus Ministry's Giving Tree.

17 students from Prof. Mary Joan Leith's class The Virgin Mary presented a festive and informative musical lecture on Christmas Carols, with the Stonehill Brass Ensemble (9 students) and the Chamber Singers (6 students) on December 13 in Alumni Hall.

1 great Lessons and Carols concert featuring our 65-member Chapel Choir.

83 alumni are serving with our Armed Forces this holiday season: 42 Army, 15 Navy, 9 Defense Department, 7 Marines, 7 Air Force, and 3 Coastguard.

84 children of alumni met Santa Claus at the first Children's Christmas Concert on December 4 in Alumni Hall while more than 150 proud alumni parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles attended the event.

280 gifts collected and wrapped for local children by alumni volunteers and their families, which they donated to My Brother's Keeper for its Christmas outreach.

600 gingerbread cookies made by Sodexo sold in Roche Dining Commons.

126 students returning home for the holidays from studying or interning abroad.

A record 360 alumni, friends, neighbors, and benefactors attended the Annual Century Club Holiday celebration in the Roche Dining Commons on December 4.

90 gifts collected in a holiday toy and book drive organized by the student Education Society, which they donated to the Coyle & Cassidy HS National Honor Society's Christmas Gift Shop.

52 student performers and 2 faculty members helped make the Children's Christmas Concert a success. Prof. Lisa Redpath directed the College's Student Concert Band (29) and its Student Orchestra (26, although some students perform with both) while Prof. Leslie Goldberg directed the 6 member Chamber Singers.

Of course, in a list like this, we cannot mention all the acts of kindness and giving that happen on our campus at this time of the year. We salute everyone who contributes to the spirit of the season and to all of our readers, we say Happy Holidays to you and your families.
