Course Overview

This course offers an introduction to macroeconomic theory and policy emphasizing the debate on the proper role of the government and the central bank in economic stabilization. Topics will include business and economic fluctuations, the Federal Reserve System and the art of central banking, interest rates, inflation, unemployment, budget, and trade deficit, fiscal and monetary policy.

About the Instructor

Hossein S. Kazemi

professor of economics
Hossein S. Kazemi is a professor of economics and is the founder and director of Bloomberg Program and Services at Stonehill College. He earned his MA and Ph.D. in Economics. His research and publications are in the areas of monetary policy, financial markets, financial crisis, investment and business cycles, and economic pedagogy. Professor Kazemi’s recent publications on the teaching of economics focus on the impact of news on financial markets. His current research focuses on the dynamic effects of the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing following the 2008 financial crisis.

Professor Kazemi is an early recipient (1998) of “The Louise F. Hegarty Award For Excellence in Teaching,” and teaches courses in Micro and Macroeconomics, Money & Banking, Monetary Policy, International Finance, Fixed Income Analysis, and Impact of News on Financial Markets.
