Course Overview

Foundations of Education introduces students to the field of education. Built both on abstract and concrete experiences, this course focuses on historic, social, and philosophical foundations of education. Current issues and information concerning teacher certification are included in the course.

About the Instructor

Margaret H. Carroll

Professor of Practice in Education
Professor of Practice in Education Margaret Carroll joined the Stonehill College community in 2025. As Coordinator of Field Experience, she is responsible for supporting teacher candidates through coursework, practicum seminars and field placements. She partners with schools, faculty and community stakeholders to ensure meaningful, well-supported learning experiences for future educators. She earned a PhD in Educational Studies from Boston University, where her research explored the ways educator preparation can better equip teachers for the professional and personal demands of the classroom. Her work examined factors that influence teacher well-being, professional resilience and long-term retention in the field. She has presented at national conferences and contributed to projects aimed at strengthening teacher preparation and support systems.
