Course Overview

In Music in Disney’s Animated Features, students will focus their work on a Disney animated film of their choice from the last fifty years. Through researched writing, students will investigate the origin of the film, a composer involved in creating the music, and the reception of the movie. The course will focus on interpreting the role that songs and music play in the films at hand.

Course Advantages

In this course, students will learn about how songs work in musicals to establish character, show motivation, and further narrative. Furthermore, the course will show how music is an essential component to Disney animated movies. Come take a deep dive into the world of Disney animated films.

Additional Information

Course may be applied to the American Studies and Cinema Studies programs.

Associate Professor of Music, Music Program Director, Music Technology Program Director
James Bohn is a composer and scholar on the faculty at Stonehill College. His music has been performed internationally as well as throughout the United States and has appeared on several recording labels. He is the author of numerous articles and a book on composer Lejaren Hiller.
