Are There Different Healthcare Management Major Programs or Concentrations?
The best part about the Healthcare Management Program at Stonehill College is that it can take you where you want to go — whether that means majoring in healthcare management, minoring in it, or even creating an interdisciplinary studies major or minor with it.
Healthcare management focuses on the leadership, managerial and methodological skills that shape healthcare in the United States.
What’s most important is that the study of healthcare management (HCM) at Stonehill fosters critical thinking, free inquiry and the free interchange of ideas, so that when you graduate, you’ll be able to think, act and lead with courage toward the creation of a more just and compassionate world.

Healthcare Supply Chain Management Initiative
Students interested in supply chain management — a specialty with profound implications in today’s marketplace — have the opportunity to apply to the Healthcare Supply Chain Management Initiative.
“It created a new passion and excitement to be in the healthcare industry,” said Abby Hersom ’18. “I was also able to see the finance, distribution and pharmaceutical sides of the industry. I would have never been exposed to one of the fundamental components of operating a successful hospital without this experience.”
The initiative — made possible by a Kimberly-Clark Corp. grant and the efforts of Stonehill alumni Bob Simpson ’93 — expands the Healthcare Management Department’s focus on one of the most crucial elements of cost-management in the healthcare system: an efficient, reliable and prompt distribution process for medical goods from raw materials to the finished product.

Healthcare Management Minor at Stonehill
The healthcare management minor offers business, liberal arts and science majors an overview of the healthcare system, an appreciation of the extent to which this field touches all our lives, and an understanding of the broad array of opportunities in the many fields of endeavor within health services. The minor is particularly appropriate for accounting, biology, communication, computer science, education, finance, management, marketing, psychology and sociology majors.
The minor in healthcare management requires the completion of six courses.
Interdisciplinary Studies Major
The Interdisciplinary Studies major is an option for students who seek to accomplish intellectual goals beyond an existing major. It requires an expression of creativity, self-motivation and a foundation of intellectual commitment.
Interdisciplinary Studies majors at Stonehill College prepare a program proposal with substantial intellectual content. Formulated with faculty advisors — one of whom will be designated as principal advisor — it must reflect the objectives of a liberal arts education.
Interdisciplinary Studies Minor
The Interdisciplinary Studies minor gives students the opportunity to explore, in some depth, a well-defined question or topic beyond the major. It provides students with maximum flexibility to propose a course of study, composed of classes and other academic experiences, as a path to conduct an interdisciplinary inquiry that may or may not be related to the major or disciplinary minor.
Students submit a proposal for an interdisciplinary minor that includes no less than four and no more than five academic units. Given the depth of study required, a student will complete only one interdisciplinary minor during their academic career at Stonehill.
