The best part about the Health Science program at Stonehill College is that it’s designed to help you succeed in the real world. You’ll gain skills, knowledge and experience that will get ready for whichever allied health path you want.

Where do you think your path will take you?

Health Science Major at Stonehill

Stonehill’s Health Science program is composed of a set of prerequisites, electives, and internships or clinical experiences.

Prerequisites were chosen carefully. When designing the program, Stonehill purposely examined prerequisite courses across graduate training programs — including nursing, physician assistant and physical therapy — and incorporated the ones with the greatest commonality. Those prerequisites serve as the foundation of the program.

Electives are focused on a greater understanding of human health, such as endocrinology, neuroscience or health psychology, so students are able to tailor their learning to their desired career pathway.

Finally, experiential learning through clinical internships rounds out the curriculum. Internships are integral for preparing students for postgraduate opportunities. They provide an opportunity to gain valuable experience, build a professional network, and learn more about yourself and potential careers.

Clinical experience can help you home in on the field where you truly want to contribute. You may have one focused direction and then experience the clinical realities of that particular setting and come to understand it’s not for you after all.

The major in health science requires the completion of 17 courses.

Stonehill’s emphasis on experiential learning allows students to experience a variety of real-world settings, so you can determine what you truly enjoy — and for me, that was life-changing. I thought I wanted to work in a surgical unit, but an internship with the Loddenkemper Research Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital supporting clinical trials in pediatric epilepsy got me interested in research.

Interdisciplinary Studies Major

The Interdisciplinary Studies program is an option for students who seek to accomplish intellectual goals beyond an existing major. It requires an expression of creativity and self-motivation, and a foundation of intellectual commitment.

Interdisciplinary studies majors at Stonehill College prepare a program proposal with substantial intellectual content. Formulated with faculty advisors — one of whom will be designated as principal advisor — it must reflect the objectives of a liberal arts education.

Interdisciplinary Studies Minor

The interdisciplinary minor gives students the opportunity to explore, in some depth, a well-defined question or topic beyond the major. It provides students with maximum flexibility to propose a course of study, composed of classes and other academic experiences, as a path to conduct an interdisciplinary inquiry that may or may not be related to the major or disciplinary minor.

Students submit a proposal for an interdisciplinary minor that includes no less than four and no more than five academic units. Given the depth of study required, a student will only complete  one interdisciplinary minor during his or her academic career at Stonehill.

Health Science Major Honors

Health science majors can be honored in two ways at Stonehill.

The Moreau Honors Program challenges students in small seminar style courses taught by the most gifted and innovative professors at the College.  Courses are designed to stimulate independent thought by combining rigorous academic standards and classroom discussions with relevant and enjoyable extracurricular events. The program leads students into lasting habits of reflection and a full, creative engagement with the world. If you would like to be considered for the program, we encourage you to apply when you submit your common application for admission to the College.

Lambda Epsilon Sigma is Stonehill’s campus-wide honor society and recognizes students from all areas of study. Students who have demonstrated a well-rounded thirst for knowledge are invited to apply.
