The Stonehill College community makes every effort to assure that this event becomes a major landmark in the lives of its graduates and their families. You are asked to assist in creating a highly enjoyable and successful event by complying with instructions and plans during Commencement exercises.
Please help us say your name correctly at Commencement. Indicate either the phonetic spelling of your name or a familiar word that rhymes with your name. Please use the Name Pronunciation Form and submit by July 1.
Cap and gown orders can be placed directly with the vendor. The deadline for orders is Saturday, July 18. There is no payment involved and the orders will be sent directly to your home. Honor cords and Moreau Honors medallions will be distributed on Commencement Day. Other clothing worn for the ceremony should be suitable for the occasion.
The procession will begin at the top of the hill at Donahue Hall and will proceed down the stairway to the quad. The graduates will be seated in the center section of the quad. The tassel is worn on the right rear side of the cap during the procession. You are to wear your class pin on your gown during the Commencement Exercises. If you did not receive your pin (they were distributed during Convocation), be sure to contact the Office of Academic Affairs.
At the completion of the Commencement Exercises, graduates process down the center aisle to a faculty reception line.
Student Commencement Speaker Application
Members of the graduating class are invited to submit an application for the honor of being the Student Commencement Speaker.
The criteria for evaluation in this selection process will be based upon:
- Content and style of presentation
- Positive attitude and originality is a plus
- A little bit of humor (in good taste) is always welcoming.
Your planned speech for commencement will be made via Zoom before the Selection Committee and auditions will be held on one day only during the week of July 13. You will be contacted with a specific appointment time.
Please send an email to Nancy Dunsing at email@example.com no later than July 1st if you are interested. In the email please include a cell phone number.
Each graduate will be photographed as he or she walks across the stage. Commencement Photos Inc. will be sending you information about their services in July. You may visit the photographer's website for more information.
Diplomas were mailed to the graduates in May. If you have not received yours, please contact the Registrar's Office
The ceremony usually concludes by 2:30 p.m. If you are planning any post Commencement celebrations, such as an off campus luncheon or party, please allow additional time to exit the campus. With the exception of water stations, there will be no food or beverages available during this event. Off campus food deliveries are not allowed due to traffic congestion.
