Overcharging Your Battery

For the month of May, our Tuesday Tips will focus on how all of us can do our part to support the Stonehill Goes Green sustainability initiative.

Laptop hardware has become so advanced that they are serving desktop duty these days. But if you leave the battery in the machine 24/7, it will continue to draw power, even if its fully charged. Not only is this a waste of energy and money, but its not good for the health of your battery. The ability to hold a charge and the overall longevity of the battery will be reduced.

Luckily, there's an easy solution: Just pull the battery out! Most laptops can run off AC power with no battery connected. Connecting the battery when you really need it will keep it in near mint condition while saving on the electric bill, and a potential replacement battery.
