Happiness Week, February 17th - 21st

What is happiness week?

Happiness Week is a week of taking time to think about how you feel about the goals you’re pursuing, if you are happy with how your spending your time, if you want to feel less stressed and more connected and more fulfilled. This week is meant to encourage you to step out of your busy schedule, to try a new activity or routine, to stop, breathe, live and enjoy! Time flies by and these next few years are meant to be fully embraced!

Be Kind - Monday February 17th

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind”. Kindness matters. It has benefits such as decreasing anxiety, improving health, increasing happiness and improving relationships. It’s simple and easy to do. It’s free. And it makes people smile. So today, practice a random act of kindness. Buy a coffee for the car behind you at drive through, hold the door open for a stranger, ask a friend to go for a walk. Kindness is contagious! Today be well…and be kind! 

Connect with others - Tuesday February 18th

  • 11am-1pm, Cleary Dining Room, Make Blankets and Hot Cocoa Bar
  • 8pm Playfair in the Sports Complex Field House 
  • Community puzzles in Residence Halls

Did you know that People who feel more connected to others have lower levels of anxiety and depression.1 In today’s society we are tied to technology 24/7 and are less likely to engage socially with others face to face. In fact 28.8% of college students reported feeling lonely.3 We are missing opportunities to meet new people, learn new things, by observing and being connected in person. Today we challenge you to connect with others in person through either a technology free challenge (try 1 hour or 24 hours), ask a friend to meet you for lunch, call a friend or relative and ask how they’ve been, thank a friend or professor for being a mentor. How will you connect with others today?

Breathe - Wednesday February 19th

  • 11am-1pm, Upper Dining Commons, Bubbles, Bubbles, Bubbles Table 
  • 1pm-2pm, Mindful Eating with Kim Pierce, Cleary Dining Room

Did you know that 65.7% of college students report feeling overwhelmed with all that they have to do?3 As we become more stressed, our health and wellbeing are being negatively affected causing issues such as lack of sleep, difficulties in relationships, general unhappiness or feelings of fulfillment. Take time today to slow down, enjoy a quiet moment, breathe, practice mindfulness.

Be present - Thursday February 20th

  • 3:30pm-4:30pm, Guided Meditation with Mike Wong, Martin Institute Boardroom
  • 4:30pm-7pm, Wellness Fair, Sports Complex; Glow in the Dark Yoga 5pm; Archery Tag, Free Pizza, Chair Massages and Pet Therapy

Just because you think it, doesn’t make it so. Our minds have a tendency to image worst case scenario’s and stew over things in the past or the future. Take time today to stop, be present, take a technology free challenge, or try meditating. 

Get Moving - Friday February 21st

  • 11:30am-12:30pm: Walk to Sheep Pasture (meet at the grotto)
  • 12pm-1pm: Make your own Acai Bowls, Sports Complex
  • 6pm-9pm: Rock Climbing at Rockspot in Dedham (pre-registration required by contacting Maureen Purcell)

Did you know that less than 5% of adults get the recommended 30 minutes amount of exercise daily?2 Exercise has many health and wellness benefits such as improved mood, sleep and improved blood pressure. Take time today to get outside, go for a walk, take a break from your work and take an exercise class. Go to the gym, play basketball, go bowling or rock climbing.
