Fr. Francis J Boland, C.S.C.

1896-1961

Fr. Boland was appointed as Stonehill's second president in 1949, and was president when women were first admitted to the college. He was Stonehill's president from 1951-1955. Prior to his time at Stonehill, he served as dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame and was vice president of St. Edward's University in Austin, TX in the thirties. He was a chaplain in the Navy with the rank of lieutenant commander. He served as a chaplain at the Veterans Administration Hospital for the last five years of his life. He passed away at the VA.
