About the Cemetery
The Congregation of Holy Cross Cemetery is located on the far side of Stonehill's campus nearest to the Route 138 entrance. Previously a rose garden owned by the Ames Family and a vegetable garden cared for by Holy Cross Seminarians, the cemetery is located within three brick walls with a large white crucifix at the front.
Six of the nine former presidents of Stonehill College are buried in the cemetery, with Fr. Francis Boland, C.S.C. having been the first Holy Cross priest buried in the cemetery. As of spring 2026, there are 169 individuals buried there, with all but three of them being ordained priests or brothers in the Congregation of Holy Cross. A number of headstones towards the front of the cemetery are cenotaphs, which are markers or headstones placed honor a deceased person whose remains are buried elsewhere or lost.
