Olivia Guinard ’28 gains hands-on professional experience through a program connecting collaboration and community impact.
Olivia Guinard ’28, a marketing major with a journalism minor from Sanford, Maine, is spending summer 2026 interning with the Maine Turnpike Authority (MTA). As part of this opportunity, she recently participated in an Intern Service Project designed to show students how meaningful careers integrate service, teamwork and professional development.
The project brought together Guinard and students from other academic institutions currently interning with HNTB Corporation and the Greater Portland Council of Governments. In partnership with Daniel Bishop of Portland Trails, the group traveled to the Forest City Trail in Westbrook, Maine, to rebuild a walking bridge frequented by families and children.
“Working with interns from all different majors showed me how much collaboration can boost our skills and help us learn from each other,” Guinard said. “It helped me realize that the most meaningful work happens when we stay connected to the communities we’re part of.”
MTA Chief Administrative Officer Erin Sullivan noted that the interns who participated in the project “exemplified the spirit of public service.”
“I’m proud of the work they accomplished and excited to see how they carry these lessons forward in their careers,” she said.
