On December 21, 2023, Stonehill College finalized the purchase of Moreau Hall, a former elementary school building adjacent to campus located at 360 Washington Street in Easton, Massachusetts.

Named after Blessed Basil Moreau, the founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Moreau Hall previously served as a residence for the Holy Cross Brothers from the early 1960s through the 1970s. The building and its land were sold to the Town of Easton in 1980 for use as a public school. Following the recent construction of Blanche A. Ames Elementary School, which combines Easton’s three elementary schools (Moreau Hall, Parkview and Center) into one facility, the property was listed for sale.

The $2.3 million property acquisition, which includes 3.44 acres of land, was completed following the Town of Easton’s Request for Proposal, expanding the total footprint of the College to 387.44 acres. The College will spend the next phase formulating plans to develop the property in ways that support its educational mission.

“The purchase of Moreau Hall marks a homecoming of sorts for our institution, being that its land was once part of the Ames Estate that was purchased by the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1935,” said President John Denning, C.S.C. “I am grateful to the Town of Easton for stewarding this property for many years in its pursuit to educate local children. I look forward to all the ways the building will continue to serve and educate the hearts and minds of future students.”
