Celebrating the Election of Pope Leo XIV
President John Denning, C.S.C., reflects on the installment of the 267th leader of the Catholic Church.
Dear Members of the Stonehill Community,
The College joins people across the world in celebrating the election of Pope Leo XIV as the 267th leader of the Catholic Church. His installment is particularly historic, as he is the first North American to serve in this role.
In an address made earlier today, Pope Leo discussed the importance of building bridges between people and being open “to all who need our charity, our presence, dialogue, love.” A dedicated servant leader and missionary to the people of Peru, Pope Leo truly embodies the College’s motto of Lux et Spes.
As he begins his papal ministry to the Church and the world, let us pray that God may bless him with wisdom, courage, and compassion.
Yours in Holy Cross,
(Rev.) John Denning, C.S.C.
President
