The piano-violin-cello ensemble has distinguished itself through innovative classical music programming and the championing of contemporary music, as well as an approachable, interactive style.

In keeping with Stonehill College’s mission of educating the whole person, the trio presents lecture-concerts that celebrate subjects like:

  • The artistic achievements of women in music, particularly those of women who were undeservingly unrecognized as capable of compositional merit such as Clara Wieck Schumann or Cecile Chaminade
  • Music of those who have had to leave their country of birth such as Astor Piazzolla, Sergei Rachmaninov and Sergei Prokofiev
  • The music of those who are composing in the here and now, including James Bohn, Lera Auerbach and Gwyneth Walker

The ensemble aims to become a repository of music from all around the globe and to offer this incredible richness to their audience members.

Already seasoned soloists and recitalists, the Stonehill Trio’s members have concertized on three continents and recorded for local and national media stations. Current membership includes Ana Sorina Popa, piano; Zhongling Li, violin; Jaehee Ju, cello.

Previous members and collaborators include Karl Ørvik, Nara Shahbazyan, So Young Kwan, Ellie Wee, Susanne Friedrich and Krishan Oberoi.
