Mission Statement

The humanistic engineering programs at Stonehill College prepare students for positions of leadership, service and global citizenship.

Integration of strong liberal arts curriculum in science and engineering encourage our students to critique science and technology in economical, historical, political and cultural context.

Our mission is to graduate students who are compassionate, ethical, change agents who have whose influence extends beyond STEM discipline.

Student Outcomes

Student outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the knowledge, skills and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program.

To achieve the educational objectives, the graduates of the program will have an ability to:

  1. Identify, formulate and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science and mathematics. [Fundamental/Problem Solving]
  2. Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental and economic factors. [Design]
  3. Communicate effectively with a range of audiences. [Communications]
  4. Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental and societal contexts. [Ethics/Profession/Economics]
  5. Function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks and meet objectives. [Teamwork]
  6. Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental and societal contexts. [Teamwork]
  7. Develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions. [Experiment/Results]
  8. Acquire and apply new knowledge using appropriate learning strategies. [Diversity and Life-Long Learning]

Educational Objectives

Program educational objectives are broad statements that describe what graduates are expected to attain within a few years of graduation.

Following is a list of the Program Educational Objectives for the undergraduate Computer and Electrical Engineering program. Three to five years after graduation, our graduate will demonstrate:

  1. Technical competence, including design and problem-solving approaches leading to meaning full designs that have positive economic, environmental and social impact. [Problem Solving and Engineering System Design]
  2. Leaderships skills, demonstrated through their daily interactions, that support the success of others and create a culture of collaboration. [Communication]
  3. Commitment to humanitarian values, such as equality, inclusion, diversity, and social justice, while solving technical problems, ethically and responsibly. [Humanistic values]
  4. Commitment to lifelong learning through the pursuit of advanced degrees, knowledge, skills, values and professional development in their field. [Life-Long Learning]
