Fall Fun Off Campus

The pandemic has made campus life a bit odd to say the least but fall in New England is a fantastic time to get out in nature and enjoy yourself while remaining socially distant. There are lots of places near campus for walking, hiking and picking seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Right across the way from campus is the Natural Resources Trust’s Sheep Pasture. This former Ames estate has walking trails and some farm animals to feed and pat. You will encounter all sorts of interesting birds and bugs as you ramble through the woods. Another Ames Estate The Governor Oliver Ames Estate is a Trustees of the Reservation property located right in the historical district in the center of Easton, a short walk from campus. Borderland State Park is a bit farther from campus, but this estate of Blanche Ames Ames, is a beautiful place to walk and enjoy the grounds. It even has a frisbee golf course.
A bit farther from campus is the Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary in Sharon. This is a beautiful place for a nice hike. While you are in Sharon you should stop at Ward’s Berry Farm this farm stand has pick your own fruits and vegetables in season, and a great shop to buy all sorts of unique foods. Ward’s also has some local 4-H club animals. You can feed the sheep and look at all the adorable bunnies. On your way back to campus, make sure you stop at Crescent Ridge Ice Cream. The ice cream is amazing and the portions are huge! I get the tiny tot.
If you want a traditional apple picking experience, in East Bridgewater there is CN Smith Farms which has a farm stand along with pick your own apples and other fruits. The Empire apples are so delicious my family looks forward to them every year.
