The Library's Subject Liaisons are your link to the extensive range of services and resources offered by the Reference Department and Library. Each Reference Librarian serves as a Subject Liaison for a group of Stonehill College departments. Liaisons focus on improving reference services to their assigned departments, contribute to collection development, and provide faculty with a personal point of contact for requesting acquisitions. In addition, Liaisons are available to attend department meetings or meet with faculty about departmental research and programming needs to ensure that both student learning goals and faculty research needs are being met. Each department and some programs have been assigned a Liaison, but all members of the Stonehill Community are encouraged to use the services of any member of the library staff.

Goals of the Liaison Program:
  • Facilitate faculty/librarian collaboration
  • Increase library awareness of faculty needs
  • Provide subject-specific information literacy instruction as requested by faculty
  • Improve library Reference services to the Stonehill Community
  • Strengthen faculty and student access to library materials
  • Introduce new faculty to library resources
  • Convey information on new resources to faculty
  • Convey information on assessment of library resources and programs to faculty
Information Literacy Instruction Options:
  • Single sessions that take place in the library or in your classroom: these targeted sessions can address specific databases, research techniques for a particular assignment, proper citation guidelines, or any other targeted topic to address your students' information fluency needs;
  • Multiple sessions either at the library or in your classroom: build a customized set of sessions to address the range of research techniques your students will encounter during the semester;
  • A librarian as an embedded presence in your class sessions: provide your students with a "personal librarian" who is present during a large percentage of class sessions and assists with assignment design and instruction;
  • Librarian assistance and support for your students in Canvas: integrate a librarian into your course Canvas page to give students another means by which to become familiar with the library and the services we offer. In the Canvas environment, Librarians can include assist faculty with locating and uploading readings, provide students with online support for their research, and participate with faculty and students in online discussion boards and/or live chat sessions.
