Stonehill was deeply saddened by the loss of a member of the community, Linsey Malia '18, who died in 2017 in a boating accident in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she was studying for the semester.

Linsey contributed to many areas of campus life - as a peer mentor, a teaching assistant, a member of the Moreau Honors Program, a work study student within Athletics, and a volunteer with multiple campus partners. Her death represents a deep loss for all of us, and of course, for her family.

The Class of 2018, along with the support Linsey's family and friends, established the Linsey Malia Memorial Scholarship.

As Stonehill mourned the loss of Linsey Malia '18, we all remembered the sunshine she brought to the College. To honor her life, and all the sunshine she brought to so many, spaces across the campus were stocked with chalk and students, staff, faculty, friends, and family used it to bring Linsey's sunshine to the entire Stonehill community.

There is no way that I can thank you enough for this generous award. This scholarship has relieved a great deal of financial difficulty in me paying for my college career, as I am paying for college by myself. Your generous and thoughtful contribution to my college career will never be forgotten and I feel privileged to have been awarded and recognized for this scholarship...I hope that I will one day be able to give back to the Stonehill community, and impact a student in the way that you have impacted me. Thank you so much for the support you have given me this year.
