City of Brockton Scholars meet with Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan.

A time-honored tradition returned to campus this year with the 60th Annual President’s Reception, held on June 2, in the Pettit Atrium of the Shields Science Center. Creating Ripples was the theme of the evening, highlighting the City of Brockton Scholarship Program at Stonehill.

“The City of Brockton Scholarship will have an impact that goes far beyond our students as our local scholars receive an outstanding education that they will bring with them into their personal and professional lives after graduation,” President John Denning, C.S.C. said of the scholarship program that supports the educational journeys of Brockton residents and Brockton High School graduates.

The President’s Award of Excellence was bestowed on the recently retired CEO of HarborOne Bank, James Blake.

Fr. John reads, "I am honored to recognize Jim Blake for his outstanding commitment to the community supporting businesses families, growth, and development to support where we live and work."

Being awarded a scholarship for my education is more than just about money to me and my family. It’s about knowing that there are people out there who believe in my ability to thrive academically and are willing to invest in my higher education.

I chose Stonehill for multiple reasons—one of my biggest being that it's close to home. Personally, I love my home city of Brockton. I love the perfect distance it is from Boston, and I love all the people who reside in Brockton. I have lived here my whole life and the way that I look at it is if I stay close to what I already know and where I already am, then I can have the rest of the world to explore.
