Biography

Associate Professor of Accounting & Taxation Oltiana Muharremi’s teaching integrates applied financial analysis, data driven decision making and the use of digital tools designed to prepare students for an increasingly technology-driven financial environment. She has taught a wide range of accounting and finance courses throughout her career, including at Bentley University and Northeastern University, where she offered courses in financial accounting, financial reporting and introductory finance.

Muharremi’s research focuses on key issues in modern finance and accounting, including financial inclusion and microfinance, foreign direct investment and sustainable economic growth, digitalization and labor market transformation, and ethical dimensions of tax compliance. Her scholarly work has been published widely in international peer-reviewed journals, and she has presented her research at academic conferences throughout Europe and North America. Recent projects examine topics such as online banking adoption, demographic influences on taxpayer ethics, technology driven changes in labor markets and financial behavior related to FinTech adoption.

At Stonehill College, Muharremi plays an active role in institutional leadership. She currently serves as chair of the Rank & Tenure Committee, is a member of the Faculty Senate and previously chaired the Business Department Curriculum Committee. Her leadership reflects a strong commitment to faculty governance, curricular development and academic quality within the Meehan School of Business.

Before joining Stonehill, she served for more than a decade as a senior lecturer at the University of Vlora “Ismail Qemali” in Albania, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting, finance, management and economics. Her international academic experience and industry background inform both her teaching and her research perspective.

Muharremi also contributes to the broader academic community through service on several editorial review boards, including those for the Journal of Governance and Regulation and Applied Economics and Finance. She serves as an ad hoc reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals in accounting, finance and governance. Her professional mission centers on advancing accounting and finance education through digital innovation, applied learning, and rigorous empirical research that analyzes real world economic and financial behavior.
