
Mahmut Cavur
Assistant Professor of Data Analytics
Biography
Assistant Professor of Data Analytics Mahmut Cavur joined the Stonehill College community in 2025. His academic work and teaching intersect the fields of data science, management information systems, geospatial technologies and applied artificial intelligence. With a career that spans academia, research and entrepreneurship, he brings a dynamic, interdisciplinary perspective to the classroom and to his scholarly contributions.
His research focuses on the application of machine learning, remote sensing and spatial analytics to real-world problems in environmental monitoring, urban planning and public safety. He has served as principal investigator and co-investigator on more than ten funded research projects, securing over $1 million in grants from organizations such as the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the European Union and TÜBİTAK. His scholarly work has resulted in numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings.
Previously, Cavur served as a faculty member at Kadir Has University and as an adjunct faculty member at Colorado School of Mines, where he led projects involving big data analytics, sensor integration and geospatial database systems. He also brings over a decade of experience in industry as the founder of MIneSoft Informatics, developing data solutions for governmental and industrial clients.
At Stonehill, Cavur teaches courses in business analytics, data science, and information systems, emphasizing hands-on learning, interdisciplinary applications, and inclusive pedagogy. He is passionate about mentoring students and involving them in applied research that bridges theory and practice. Fluent in English, Turkish, Arabic, and French, he also brings a strong global and multicultural orientation to his teaching and service.
