Biography
Assistant Professor and the Writing Program Director Devon Deery oversees Stonehill College’s First-Year Writing Seminars and supports writing instruction across the curriculum.
She brings extensive experience teaching writing at the college level across creative, academic and peer-supported learning contexts. She began her teaching career at Boston-area colleges and has taught a wide range of writing courses at Stonehill that engage students in multiple genres and rhetorical situations. Her pedagogy is grounded in process-based writing and inquiry, supporting students as they grow into more confident readers, writers, and thinkers.
In addition to her teaching role, Deery brings longstanding experience in writing program leadership and academic support administration. These experiences inform her commitment to teaching writing and to supporting faculty in the design and instruction of writing-intensive courses, with particular attention to peer learning and anti-racist pedagogical and administrative practices.
Deery’s creative and scholarly work includes publications in poetry and fiction, as well as an illustrated children’s book. Most recently, she co-authored a chapter in Writing Centers and the New Racism on anti-racist administrative practices in writing centers, reflecting her commitment to equity-minded leadership and inclusive educational environments.
