Biography

Brian McKenna, FACHE comes to the Healthcare Management Department with more than 40 years of senior level healthcare management experience and leadership, having worked primarily within for-profit healthcare organizations. McKenna is currently the Vice President of Operations for Signature Medical Group, a large multispecialty group practice and part of Signature Healthcare, an integrated delivery system in Brockton, MA. McKenna oversees approximately 550 employees and 150 providers in 16 locations with an annual operating budget of more than $75 million. Signature Medical Group is one of the largest multispecialty groups in Southeastern Massachusetts, providing Primary, Urgent and Specialty Care to more than 75,000 patients.

Prior to his role at Signature Medical Group, McKenna was Director of Specialties, Diagnostic Services & Real Estate for Compass Medical, P.C., a member of the Steward Health Care System. In his role at Compass Medical, he was responsible for the Cardiovascular and Behavioral Health service lines, a high complexity laboratory processing more than one million tests annually, 27 specialty providers, four diagnostic centers providing more than 60,000 studies and more than 200,000 sq. ft. of medical space in eight locations throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. McKenna is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves as the Department’s Faculty Advisor to ACHE’s Higher Education Network.

Before joining Compass Medical, he was the Regional Director for Business Development, Hospital & Physician Relations within Kindred Healthcare’s Hospital Division. At Kindred he was responsible for strategic initiatives as well as hospital and physician relations for seven hospitals throughout Massachusetts. Prior to joining Kindred Healthcare, McKenna worked for Aveta Ancillary Services of New Jersey where he was responsible for developing and opening the Massachusetts market for the company’s Hospice Service Division, and ultimately bringing the Massachusetts Division to profitability. He was also responsible for securing Aveta’s Medicare certification and independent accreditation while expanding the Division throughout Central and Eastern Massachusetts.

McKenna has spent a large portion of his career in hospital administration.  Prior to Aveta, he held senior leadership positions at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence RI, National Medical Care in Waltham, MA and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. He has extensive experience developing and building relationships in the acute, post-acute, and physician sectors. McKenna brings a wealth of professional experience in business development, strategic initiatives, and operations management of healthcare organizations to the classroom. He has been a faculty member of Stonehill’s Healthcare Management Department since 1996.
