Joseph C. Middleton

As Head Reference Librarian, Joe gets to spend a lot of his time at the Reference Desk answering questions. He also coordinates the Reference Desk activities of librarians, student workers and Library Science interns. He conducts library instruction sessions. He is the library’s liaison to the Business Administration, Healthcare Administration and Economics Departments. In 2000 he was the recipient of the Staff Appreciation Award, presented by the Student Government Association.

Previously, Joe has held library jobs at Suffolk University, Harvard University, Northeastern University, Simmons College and the New York Public Library. Past non-library employment includes a few summers being an Instructor at the Voyageur Outward Bound School in Minnesota

Unsurprisingly, Joe likes to read: mostly science fiction, fantasy and mysteries. He likes hiking, particularly in the White Mountains. He used to do a lot of canoeing and has been on major paddling expeditions on the Attawapiskat, Coppermine and Winisk rivers in northern Canada.

Joe holds a BA in Anthropology from Queens College, City University of New York and a Masters in Library and Information Science from Simmons College.

Joe is married and has two daughters.
