The Outstanding Faculty Service Leadership Award recognizes faculty members who embody the spirit of Light and Hope as they take on leadership roles within the College community. They collaborate and inspire, leading with dedication, mission and a commitment to Stonehill. Their efforts go beyond individual contributions, building partnerships within the College, professional organizations, and the local community. This award celebrates individuals who lead by example, embodying the values we strive to instill in our students and creating a ripple effect of positive change throughout the institution and beyond. In 2026, Stonehill College is proud to bestow the Outstanding Faculty Service Leadership Award on Professor José Luis Martínez.

Professor José Luis Martínez exemplifies the spirit of the Outstanding Faculty Service Leadership Award through sustained, mission‑centered leadership that has strengthened Stonehill’s academic life, deepened its Catholic identity, and enriched its engagement with students and community partners. Guided by the values of Light and Hope, he approaches service not as a series of obligations, but as a defining dimension of his vocation as an educator.

Professor Martínez’s contributions are woven into the fabric of the College. He has served with distinction on key institutional committees, including the Catholic Identity Committee, the Human Resources Advisory Committee, the Faculty Grievance Committee, and presidential search committees. In each setting, he brings thoughtful discernment, collegiality, and a deep commitment to shared governance and the Holy Cross mission. His presence reflects genuine care for the community and a strong sense of purpose.

Professor Martínez’s leadership extends beyond formal committee work. He has played an important role in advancing intercultural and mission‑aligned initiatives across campus, partnering with Intercultural Affairs on Latino Heritage programming and participating actively in ALANA initiatives, faculty and staff of color gatherings, and orientation and panel programs for incoming students. Through this work, he models inclusive, relational leadership that affirms the dignity and gifts of every member of the community.

He has also strengthened Stonehill’s academic and global reach through his collaboration on the development of new programs, departmental strategic planning and program review, and the development of study abroad partnerships in Granada, Spain. His educational travel with Holy Cross colleagues to East Africa further reflects a commitment to understanding and advancing the mission globally.

What distinguishes Professor Martínez’s service is both its breadth and its spirit. He leads collaboratively, builds bridges across divisions, and ensures that Stonehill’s mission is lived out in meaningful, daily ways.

And so, with deep pride, we confer the 2026 Outstanding Faculty Service Leadership Award to you, Professor José Luis Martínez, whose service leadership fosters connection, strengthens community, and leaves a lasting legacy of Light and Hope at Stonehill.
