Biography

Associate Professor of Accounting Solange Lopes is a Certified Public Accountant, researcher, educator and speaker whose work sits at the intersection of accounting, gender, work and organizational systems. Drawing on experience across public accounting, academia and public scholarship, she examines how professional and financial systems shape decision-making, career advancement and equity in the workplace.

Before entering academia, she worked in public accounting, with a professional background in auditing that continues to inform her research and teaching. At Stonehill, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in auditing, financial accounting and managerial accounting, bringing professional practice, ethical judgment and emerging issues in the accounting profession into the classroom.

Her research focuses on gender in auditing and accounting, accounting education, and accounting case research, with particular interest in how organizational structures and emerging technologies influence professional experiences and outcomes.

Beyond academia, Lopes is the founder of The Corporate Sister Foundation, an initiative focused on advancing women’s careers, leadership and financial empowerment. She is also the author of the Women, Work, and Systems newsletter on LinkedIn, where she uses accounting and systems-based perspectives to examine the often-invisible structures shaping women’s experiences at work.

As a speaker and commentator, Lopes bridges academic research, professional accounting experience and practical insight. She speaks on gender equity, women and work, auditing and the accounting profession, workplace systems, accounting education, financial empowerment, and the implications of AI and emerging technologies for professionals and organizations.
